Vienna Main Railway Station

Vienna Main Train station or Wien Hauptbahnhof (often referred to as Wien Hbf) is the heart and soul of Austrian Railways. Being the largest one in the whole of Austria, it arose due to the merger of the older Southern train station and the nearby Sudtiroler Platz train station that hosted electric multiple units before.

As a result, Vienna Main train station is the central hub for the Austrian part of the Railjet train fleet. Read more about this fantastic train station below.

Address: Alfred-Adler-Straße 107, 1100 Wien, Austria

What to find in the station?

The station is functioning in its current state since 2015 when it was opened after a 7-year long reconstruction. The spacious station's building allows you to feel safe and comfortable. Also, it provides ticket offices, spacious waiting rooms, luggage lockers, public bathrooms, shopping galleries, dozens of restaurants, and cafes. But, of course, this list wouldn't be full without a hotel and large parking lot for 600 cars.

Nowadays, the station is central Vienna's hub for international trains and for OBB local trains that arrive and depart from there. Therefore, the whole new station concept was quite simple: to replace three old train stations with only one central Wien Hauptbahnhof train station. This will drastically save travel time and make Wien Hauptbahnhof the only choice to travel to, from, and across Vienna.

How to get there?

The train station is located in the southern part of Sudtirolen Platz, which is tightly connected with Vienna's public transportation system, represented by subway, busses, trams, and S-Bahn local trains.

When it comes to the central city's sights, the station is located practically far away from there. For example, Vienna's Cathedral is about 3km away, which makes it a 40-minute walk. A subway or taxi is a better option in this case.
